Materials

2 Sheets A4 Stardream Opal card (or a blank card which when closed measures 21cms x 21cms)
2 Sheets A4 Gold Mirri Card
2 Sheets A4 JS Gentle Gloss Photo Paper
Piece of card to make a mat for the topper
1 Sheet A4 thick acetate
2 Sheets A4 100/120gsm paper for insert
Sticky stuff (I used large foam pads, double sided tape, red liner double sided tape, quickie glue pen, sellotape)
Peel-off sentiment
Piece of card 9cms x 20.3cms for slider
Polythene bag
JS CD - The Pamela West Collection Volume 2
Optional Martha Stewart punches. Please check suitability for punching out acetate.

Step One

Using A4 Stardream card cut one piece of card 21cms x 21cms.

Cut the second piece of card 21cms x 22.5cms. Score a line 1.5cms in from the left edge of the 21cms side of the card "A". Fold the score line upwards to create a flange. Both pieces of card will measure 21cms square. Attach double sided tape to the top of the flange (A) and stick the card (B) on the top of (A) (See picture).

Print out the second largest topper from the Woodland/stream scene on the Pamela West Volume 2 CD set.

Print out a co-ordinating bookmark, first using the interactive facility if you wish to add a sentiment

Step Two

Using Mirri card cut three pieces of card. (See picture)

A - Base backing card. Measures 20.5cms x 20.5cms
B - Topper backing card. Measures 10.5cms x 20.5cms
C - Slider guide. Measure 3.3cms x 20.5cms

Centre and stick "A" to the front of the card.

Mount the Pamela West topper on a piece of contrasting card and fix to "B" Add a sentiment if required. Do not fix to the card.

Optional - I used the Martha Stewart Double Edge Doily Lace Punch to punch a border which I fixed to "C" using a quickie glue pen. Do not fix to the card.

Step Three

Cut a piece of card 9cms x 20.3cms and stick foam pads to the top and bottom of the 9cms wide edges on the back and front of the piece of card. Cut away approximately 3mm from each side edge between the top and bottom row of foam pads. (See A)

Cut a piece of polythene slightly smaller than the distance between the top and bottom foam pads, and wide enough to wrap round the card twice with enough spare for joining.

Position the slider card on the polythene and place a piece of waste card on top of the slider card. NB the waste card is to stop the polythene being wrapped too tightly round the slider.

Wrap the polythene over the slider from the right and attach a length of sellotape halfway over the edge of the polythene, so that the sticky side is uppermost. (See B)

Fold over the polythene from the left and stick down to form a tube. Cut away excess polythene and excess sellotape. Remove the waste card.

Step Four

Cut a piece of acetate 10cms x 17.5cms. Cut a second piece 21cms x 17.5cms.

Optional - Using a Martha Stewart, punch a decorative pattern down one of the 17.5cms edges of each piece of acetate; I used the Quilted Combo Set. Which type of punch you use depends upon the thickness of the acetate and the detail on the punch, so please check your punch is suitable for the acetate.

Cut out the bookmark set and cut an extra 1.5cms off the top and bottom edge of both pieces of the bookmark.

Move the sellotaped joint of the slider to the front left edge, and using Red Liner tape fix the smaller piece of acetate on top of the sellotape joint, butting the un-punched edge of the acetate up to the left edge of the slider. Stick the bookmark (without the sentiment) on the acetate, at the right-hand side of the slider. Make sure no sticky stuff overhangs and check that the polythene will rotate round the slider when you pull the acetate, and you can move the bookmark to the right. It may require a few moves to get it to run freely. (See picture).

Step Five

Move the sellotaped joint to the left of the slider as far as it will go.

Stick Red Liner tape on the top of the unpunched edge of the larger piece of acetate (small inset picture) and fix to the polythene on the underside of the slider at the right-hand edge. NB The pale red line on the slider in the picture, is UNDERNEATH the slider and cannot be seen when you look at the front of the slider. (It is shown for illustration purposes only - where to fix the Red Liner tape which has been stuck on the acetate).

Position and fix the second section of the bookmark on top of the acetate, so that when the acetate is extended to the right, the bookmark just clears the slider (see picture).

Step Six

Position the topper and check that the bookmark can be seen when the slider mechanism is moved to the right. (See picture)

Remove the foam pads from the underside of the slider and stick down at the left-hand side of the card, approximately 2mm in from the left-hand side edge of the base backing card "A".

Remove the foam pads from the front of the slider and stick the topper "B" on top of the slider so the slider mechanism cannot be seen.

Step Seven

Cut a foam pad in half and attach to the reverse of the slider guide at the top and bottom. Make sure the pads are clear of the acetate. Fix another couple of foam pads to the centre of the slider guide, but do not remove the backing on the pads "A". They are there to stop the middle of the guide dipping and catching on the acetate. (See picture).

Fix the slider guide to the right-hand side of the card

Step Eight

This picture shows the card with the acetate closed. To reveal the hidden message pull the decorative acetate edge at the right-hand side of the card. If you do not want the fancy edge fix a tassel to the acetate underneath the slider guide.
