Materials
2 x Sheets of JS Stardream card Lapis Lazuli.
2 x Sheets of JS Gentle Gloss Photo Paper for decoupaged fans.
1 x Sheet of 160gsm thin card for backing paper.
2 Navy blue tassels.
Sticky Stuff, (I used Collall photo glue, silicone glue, foam pads).
Joanna Sheen Elegant Fans CD. I used the peacock fan from the decoupaged fan section.
Step One
Print out a backing sheet for the peacock fan. My printer does not print edge to edge but leaves an equal border on all sides (See picture). If your printer does not print edge to edge, complete the measuring and then remove the border. Picture in step 2 shows where to mark for measuring.
Step Two
Landscape orientation, turn the printed backing paper face down and mark as shown in picture. Ensure if you are using the backing sheet with the fan border that when the backing paper is turned face up, the fans will be on the right and the correct way up.
Starting at the left mark along the top and bottom edges at:-
5cms – this is shown by a red line. (Score as a mountain fold)
10cms - this is shown by a green dot.
12.5cms – this is shown by a yellow line. (Score 4cms downwards from the top and 5cms upwards from the bottom, valley fold)
20cms - this is shown by a green dot.
22.5cms - this is shown by a green dot.
Line your ruler up vertically against a top and bottom green dot. Mark a point 4cms down from the top and a corresponding point 5cms up from the bottom. Repeat with the other two sets of green dots. This will create a rectangle 12cms x 12.5cms (including an inner rectangle on the right measuring 12cms x 2.5cms). As all the markings are on the wrong side and cannot be seen it is easier to draw the rectangle in pencil.
Score the two outer sides of the rectangle. (These are shown by yellow lines – valley folds).
Score the inner line of the rectangle. (This is shown by red line – mountain fold).
Cut the two horizontal line of the rectangle (shown in blue).
If you have a border round your backing paper, trim it off. Before you crease the mountain and valley fold score lines, centre/place your backing paper on top of your Stardream card and mark for the tri-fold score lines, the first mark being 5cms from the left and the second mark 12.5cms from the left (may vary slightly depending on how your printer prints). Score the Stardream card.
Step Three
Re-centre the backing paper on top of the Stardream card, matching the two tri-fold score lines and stick down. I used Collall glue, which allows for adjustment. I eased the backing paper into the valley fold and over the mountain fold (See picture) using my thumbnail.. If the centre rectangle is floppy reinforce on the back of the rectangle using a small “Z” shaped piece of card. The “Z” should fold down the same way as the rectangle.
Step Four
Using the Gentle Gloss Photo Paper, print out two copies of the peacock fan. If you don’t want to print all of the fans, the CD explains how to capture a single image and import it into a word processing programme. I used the peacock feathers from the smaller and larger versions, captured them and imported them into Word. Mount the largest fan onto a piece of Stardream card, leaving a small border round the image, and add a tassel. I then decoupaged them using silicone glue.
